Wyrd

Wyrd is a Norse/Anglo-Saxon concept, and while I do not follow a specific cultural path, it is a concept that I feel handles the question of ‘Fate’ better than any other explanation. And while I fear I will not do the concept justice, it is an important factor in my belief system, and so must be represented.

A person’s wyrd is woven as a continual process. What was, what is, and what will be as it exists in the Eternal Now, as it were. Wyrd takes into consideration a person’s predispositions, their behavioral patterns and influences… it considers the sum total choices they have made (Orlog), and those they are most likely to make… it also takes into consideration Universal influences and even influences from the gods… as well as natural influences, events, and other people – for all things are connected and we are effected by what other people do to and around us. Destiny and Free Will are placed together on the Web – and all of these things together determine a person’s wyrd.

It should never be forgotten, however, that a person is always responsible for their own actions and choices. However they may be influenced, it is always their choices which lead them to the place they have come to…

Imagine a spider’s web. You are at one place on the web. Other people, events, and influences represent other places. Imagine you come to a point on the Web which branches off into different directions. This is a place of choice. Based on your past choices and your predispositions, you are most likely to make a certain choice. This a pattern used in prediction. However, you can also go against your own grain and go a different way – but it is often harder to make those choices. Either way, once you make a choice a path is opened before you, and you go along a path which seems predestined. It both is and isn’t. There are certain things which have become fated because of the choices you’ve made… a Fate which is fluid and in constant motion… constantly being woven by the Ladies of Past, Present and Future…

And of course, just as your wyrd is influenced by other forces, so, too, do you influence others. Every action and choice you make – even the small ones, to a lesser degree – reverberate along the Web. To what degree these ripples effect other portions of the Web depends on both proximity and potency… Large vibrations can affect the entire Web, whereas small vibrations tend to affect only the immediate area. However, those ripples can cause other ripples in unknown and unpredictable ways… this is chaos within the pattern… which is, itself, part of the Pattern…

Of course, just as everything is connected… it is also true that everything is relative… and truth is a matter of perception and perspective… and reality is what you think it is…

Leave a message and I'll call you back..."
