Balance is an inherent part of my system – not just my loose ethical code, but my entire belief structure. It is, I believe, the underpinning of all Creation… the union and opposing forces which, only when combined and playing with and against each other, form a system which is stable enough to survive and yet changeable enough to evolve… This idea of Balance is echoed in many systems – the most obvious of which is probably Taoism, another influence of mine. And while I’m not going to try to explain Taoism, I would recommend to everyone that they read the Tao Te Ching… Balance is key in all things, for going too far to either extreme causes stagnation, and stagnation is death. I also believe that Balance is the natural inherent state to which all things strive to achieve. Often times if we find ourselves too far gone in either direction, we find events occur snap drastically back in the opposite force. Things like entropy and Murphy’s Law tend to compound matters when everything happens all at once… Of course, even this will not last for ever, as the system naturally balances itself… My favorite times are the in-between times, often considered to be magickal times precisely because they lie in a balance between extremes. The twilight hours of dusk and dawn, the changing seasons of spring and autumn, the transitional festivals of Beltane and Samhain. Even that state between waking and sleeping when you live in a half-dream and reality is blurred.
